When you look at your to-do list, are you filled with dread or with hopeful anticipation?
Although it is common to feel overwhelmed, burdened, and stressed, is it helpful? Wouldn’t it be better to feel in control, blessed, and relaxed?
In this series, we are exploring the power of quotes to inspire us.
In our first post, we examined the reasons quotes can provide inspiration.
Our second post shared quotes to help us get started.
Our third post shared quotes that can inspire us to finish a task.
In this post, we will identify quotes that can help us gain a fresh perspective that is positive and overcomes the belief that hard work is drudgery and to be avoided at all costs and instead acknowledges that it is critical to our success.
Why do we view hard work so negatively?
Partly because all too often we work harder than is beneficial. We lose sleep. We prioritize work over our health and our relationships. When we become workaholics, we suffer. This extreme can lead to characterizing all work in a negative light.
However, work that is balanced can be both hard and good for us. It gives us the satisfaction of accomplishing something worthwhile and productive.
According to a nationally representative survey of 5,902 U.S. workers by the Pew Research Center, “half of workers say they find their job to be enjoyable all or most of the time, and 47% say it is fulfilling. Smaller but substantial shares say their job is stressful (29%) and overwhelming (19%) all or most of the time.”
Do you fall into that category of workers who are stressed or overwhelmed, all or most of the time? To overcome this negative perspective, harness the power of quotes and be inspired to do hard things.
